Panic Attacks - Can You Cure Them Without Drugs?

Monday, September 7th, 2009

Panic attacks, or anxiety attacks as they are usually one and the same, can strike you out of the blue. They usually hit you at the worst possible moment. If you are a sufferer I’m sure you would give anything to stop them dead. Your wish could be granted.

Hit Like A Train

My wife was hit with a very severe panic attack while she was driving the car. Clearly this could have had disastrous consequences. After she, and me to be honest, got over the shock we did what everybody does. Went to see our doctor.

We got a standard lesson on the facts. Nothing to worry about, never in any real danger etc etc. Then we got a prescription for beta blockers. I’m using the term “we” here as I felt as much part of it as my wife did. Beta blockers work by slowing the heart. By doing this a panic attack shouldn’t build as the heart can’t race out of control.

We tentatively went out in the car again and sure enough at the same junction my wife started to feel an attack coming on. Basically she had a panic attack while the drugs kept her heart rate slower. She described it as worse than normal as she felt both out of control and calm at the same time.

Say No To Drugs

I drove us home and we threw the drugs into the trash. My wife never drove, not once, in the next 9 months. My wife had mixed emotions because while not driving she was panic attack free, she could not bring herself to drive.

We couldn’t let this situation go on. Her not being able to drive for fear of having an attack at the wheel. I constantly searched the internet for help and advice, and to be honest, hopefully a magic cure. None of them worked properly, at least not for us.

We’ll Try Anything Once

I came across yet another “system” that claimed to be a magic bullet. We thought we may as well give it a go. We knew any success wasn’t down to drugs as she wasn’t taking them anymore. Fingers crossed it was looking good. The first time she drove she felt an attacked looming. However she quickly put the method into practice and got through the attack ok.

When we talked after, she said she still had an attack but she managed to keep it at bay. She knew she had managed to lessen its effects herself. And this was a big confidence booster. She was sure the next time she could stop it all together. She didn’t.

Bit By Bit

Again though, she managed to lessen its effects. Every time she had an attack she had the ability to lower the force of it. In less than a month she was able to know when an attack loomed. And more importantly stop it completely.

If you feel overwhelmed by these sudden attacks you have the choice to do nothing, or seek medical help in the form of drugs from your doctor. The former won’t help you and the latter may or may not help.

Or you could decide to take control of your life and unlock the secret that will halt these anxiety attacks before they start. The key is at this website…

Could You Spot An Anxiety Disorder?

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Anxiety attacks, or panic attacks as they are more or less the same thing, are on the increase. Who knows whether it’s our modern more stressful way of life or not. But the fact remains they are causing more and more people no end of problems.

Could you spot if you were having a panic or anxiety attack? That’s a difficult question to answer as the symptoms are quite wide ranging and can vary from mild to the downright frightening. You may just feel a bit of a hot sweat. But you may also feel like your heart is bursting out of your chest.

I guess if you were having the second type of symptom you’d be very aware you need help to put this right. If your symptoms are mild though, you may not even realise it’s a panic or anxiety attack. This could be a warning sign that things are about to get worse, much worse.

The first (bad) panic attack my wife suffered was actually while she was driving. It wasn’t the fact she had suffered an attack that hit her worst, but the fact she could easily have hit and killed someone or maybe even herself. It won’t do anyone any good to dwell on this type of scenario.

If you have been feeling a little off lately, maybe suffering any of these symptoms…. Difficulty sleeping, a bit on edge or anxious, can’t concentrate, constantly irritated or fidgeting a lot. Having any of these mild symptoms could be a warning sign.

But before you actually have a panic attack thinking about those symptoms let me put your mind at ease. There are many normal things that can cause symptoms like those. And you shouldn’t worry about them. An ill fitting item of clothing can cause you to fidget and too much coffee (caffeine) will definitely disrupt your sleep.

But before we dismiss everything it’s still safer to be sure you aren’t a panic attack victim. You can take an anxiety symptoms test which may give you a better idea. All you do is tick a few boxes with either yes or no and total your score at the end.

Then you can make the choice to take further action or not. There’s an anxiety (panic) symptoms test here.
