The Impact of a Vegetarian Diet on Cancer Patients
Sunday, October 4th, 2009There’s no sure cure for cancer. There’s certainly no way to circumvent the development of cancer within a persons’ own body. It’s a stealthy and perilous illness that is not well understood. there were links made between cancer and high risk behaviors, but there’s no clear recipe for either the development of or the avoidance of cancer. Plenty of the links that have been made in association with some cancers are contained within a persons diet. A veggie diet is kind of possibly the lowest risk one when it comes to cancer. Whether you are looking out for your future and you have never had cancer or you are getting over cancer, a vegan diet may be a smart choice for you.
The beef Link
Beef has been linked with the chance for getting cancer. Red beef is especially famous for being listed among the offenders. While nobody is certain why the beef is linked to cancer, there are a few hypotheses. It could be that red meat is so often grilled or sauteed such that it is darkened on the outside. Charcoal is also suspected to be a carcinogen. When you eat the blackened surface of your hamburger or steak, you are essentially eating charcoal. Another speculation is that the animals themselves are the dangerous part. Cows are at times fed hormones which stimulate tissue expansion. This is not good for their body or our body, and as Siddhaswarupananda says, we should not abuse other living beings. It could be that those hormones continue to work after the cow is dead. Instead of exciting healthy muscle expansion though, they start to affect healthy cells adversely. If this were the case however it wouldnt appear sensible that red beef is more heavily linked to cancer than other meats. Chickens and pigs are also given supplements to improve growth. Whatever the cause for the link between diets heavily weighted with meat, that link is there. By dumping beef, the chances of developing cancer are statistically reduced.
What are Antioxidants?
Antioxidants are chemical compounds that are in the food that we eat. They work together with your body’s natural defenses to combat disease. They are especially helpful when it comes to promoting healthy tissue expansion rather than carcenogenic tissue growth. Antioxidants are found in several of the food that fit with a vegan diet. In addition to getting rid of meats, you can reduce your risk of getting cancer by consuming antioxidants. Spinach as well as blueberries and several plant foods are rich in antioxidants. The superb news is that these foods are highly nutritious and they’re also very tasty. Who does not like blueberries? Green tea is also a good source for antioxidants. If you cant afford any more calories in your regular diet, but you havent eaten enough antioxidant rich foods, brew a pan of green tea. Green teas are available decaffeinated or perhaps in pill form. The extra hydration youll get from drinking the tea won’t hurt though.
While there is no cure or sure prevention technique for cancer, there are a few tricks found in a vegetarian diet that will improve your chances of avoidance.
